Mission and Vision of the Task Force

The High-Level Task Force for the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) was established in September 2012 as an independent body to provide a bold, progressive voice for advancing sexual and reproductive health and rights for all, especially for those living in poverty and otherwise marginalized, and to advance gender equality and the empowerment of women and young people.

The work of the Task Force is supported with funds from the governments of Denmark, Finland, Germany and The Netherlands, and from the following private foundations: the Ford Foundation, the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation and the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation.

Our Mission

The Task Force’s mission is to:

• Galvanize political will to close gaps in implementation and advance a forward-looking agenda for the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) that fulfills the sexual and reproductive health and rights of all people.

• Ensure that sexual and reproductive health and rights, gender equality and the empowerment of women, adolescents and youth are central components of the Post-2015 Development Agenda.

Our Vision

The High-Level Task Force for the ICPD envisions a world where all women and men, adult and young, have equal opportunities, freedoms and choices to forge their own life aspirations and destinies.

What We Do

To accomplish its mission, the Task Force will:

• Seize key opportunities for policy-oriented advocacy at global, regional and national levels to present a strategic vision of priorities for action on ICPD Beyond 2014 and the Post-2015 Development Agenda, and inspire policy-makers to strengthen and fulfill their commitments to sexual and reproductive health and rights.

• Build strategic alliances and partnerships with civil society and other influential actors for coordinated and effective advocacy.

• Push for strong accountability mechanisms, with meaningful involvement of diverse women’s, young people’s and other civil society and marginalized groups in decision-making and monitoring, so that governments at all levels, development partners and the international community fulfill pledges made in global agreements.
